HUGE visit, Easter 2015

The HUGE team of 11 enthusiastic and willing volunteers (and 700kg of donations) headed out to Nabugabo over Easter. We spent six days volunteering at the school and in the community. Improvements in infrastructure, equipment and resources were noticeable, but the biggest change was the children; 99 kids, all in uniform, receiving 2 meals a day, progressing in their lessons and making friends outside of them. New building works, and cows!

It been an exciting and very busy few months at the Nabugabo Community Learning Centre. Substantial building works have been going on and it has been wonderful to see the progress that’s been made. Two more classrooms have been added as well as staff quarters to enable 2 new teachers to live on site. We have also developed a partnership with a local businessman who has donated 50 cows to the community. The partnership means in 3 years the community will have returned the investment through the milk produced and will now own the cows. They will also keep a

Health Centre in Nabugabo

The HUGE team recently visited Nabugabo and part of their visit included supplying the area with the beginnings of a health centre. This was organised with the help of Medical Aid CIC who provided us with the equipment and support to fly it across. Large donations of medicines were also delivered which has enabled the health centre to become fully stocked. This equipment is basic but it is an improvement on having to travel 7km to access similar basic facilities that are poorly resourced. Your continued support will help this centre grow and provide continued healthcare to the whole community.

Early stages of HUGE

The HUGE partnership, was formulated in early 2013. A visit out to Nabugabo in February was accompanied with over 200kg worth of equipment; medical supplies, books, clothing, shoes and sports kits to name a few. These goods were all donated to HUGE from a variety of local schools for who we thank immensely, Bloxham School, St Andrews School, Pangbourne College and Headington School, Oxford. As well as transporting donations the HUGE team got to work and spent time in lessons with the Nabugabo children and got dirty with the paintbrushes!
